Casting your vote for the first time can bring about a mix of emotions – excitement, confusion, and pressure – all with good reason! Given the opportunity to influence who is elected into municipal government is a weighty responsibility. There is much to consider: What ward do I live in? Who is running? Who represents my interests? How does the voting process work?

Before you step into that ballot booth and check off the box of your choice, the Town wants you to know that answers to your questions can be found on this website. Although the election does still involve traditional promotion methods (candidates knocking on doors, debates, and voice messages), there are many quick and convenient ways to get to know the voting process and the candidates through the web and social media. If you’re not sure about which candidate to vote for, check online – many of them have websites, Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, and use YouTube to get their messages across.

Once you vote for the first time, you’ll feel relieved and satisfied knowing you made an important decision on behalf of you and your community. There are millions of young people around the world who are not allowed to vote, or even punished for voicing their opinion! Voting is a democratic right in Canada and the Town of Ajax wants everyone to take this right seriously.

Voting does matter. For inspiration, be sure to check out the Town’s “Get out the Vote” video!

Don’t forget – Election Day is Monday, October 25
